The Tuesday reversal caught some bears a bit overanxious to establish short positions, and then a weak start this morning set the stage for a quick snapback.  By the end of the session, the averages had each finished green, leaving yesterday’s decline looking like a possible one-and-done dip. Time will of course tell whether or not that is the case, but for now, we know someone’s getting trapped up here. [Read more…]

Stocks rallied hard this morning to make new all-time and recovery highs (depending upon the index), stalled out mid-day, then rolled over. The textbook downside reversal had “swan dive” written all over it, reminiscent of a cartoon character’s vertical lift from a diving board, pause at the apex, then sharp turn to the downside. Post-expiration today led to a bunch of nothing today with both the NAZ and S&P 500 finishing nearly unchanged on the day, less than 1 point from Friday’s closing levels. Summer is here, temps are up, and the market is showing no signs of a slowdown yet. All parties come to an end eventually, but so far we’ve not seen this one give any indications of interest elsewhere. Happy Father’s Day StockBandits!

Before I get into the market discussion and trades, I just want to say up front that if you are a Dad, I sincerely hope that your day has been a good one.  It’s a tremendous opportunity and it comes with truly massive responsibility, so “Dad” is not a label to take lightly!  I hope you’ve been able to speak or spend time with your kids today and pour some love and encouragement on them, no matter what age – they need it from you!

Turning to the market, it may be summer vacation time but the bulls certainly have not left town.  We did see a mid-week pullback last week, but the bears still know who their daddy is for now. [Read more…]

Summertime is here and today the bulls took a dip, perhaps not only in the pool but in the market as well.  Stocks finally relented to break 5-day streaks in the NAZ and DJIA, cooling off their torrid pace while conjuring up images of the old “simma down now” SNL skit. [Read more…]
