Hit List 3-21-2012

The Hit List is a look at our current swing trading positions. Stocks we are already in have “triggered”, while those we are considering for plays have not triggered. Click post title to view print-friendly link.

Open Position Notes:

GRMN showed some steady morning weakness today before finding its footing and reversing higher to finish positive on the day.  This stock overall remains range-bound and just a few cents from my entry price, with only a $0.40 dividend on the way to show for itself.  Nonetheless, I was encouraged by today’s retreat which (1) stopped shy of my stop loss to hold support, and (2) found buyers on the dip.  I’m going to stick with my existing trade parameters for tomorrow’s session, and would like to see a more decisive turn higher with some volume expansion to accompany it.

NFLX was listed 2 nights ago, did you miss it?

AAPL, GOOG, PCLN are just in runaway mode right now and there are no patterns to highlight. AAPL & PCLN in particular just went parabolic, so this is no place to buy them. Getting in here raises the question, where in the world to get out? When that is not clear there is nothing to highlight. If/when they set up for trades with patterns, I’ll of course have them here.

Keep in mind they don’t tend to move as much in % terms (as I noted in response to your same question on 3/1) which makes it hard to justify trades in stocks priced so high since they are capital-intensive and the payout is limited due to their % ranges on a given day.

You recently asked about AMZN and I mentioned when it sets up for a play I’d list it. We caught $7 in it yesterday, so like I said when they get ready to go I don’t mind highlighting them.
