Open Position Notes:

GRMN was turned away from the $48 level again today as an early attack at that area resulted in a mild pullback into mid-day.  From there, the stock stabilized and lifted slightly off its worst levels into the close, ending the day just slightly positive from my entry a few weeks ago.  This stock remains range-bound, and aside from the $0.40 dividend, it hasn’t shown much progress.  I’m doing my best to stay patient here, but the stock is acting sluggish.  I may look to post an intraday exit in the days ahead, depending upon how it’s acting and what the overall market is doing.  Should we see a pullback kick in, I’ll likely cut bait in this stock sooner than later.

FBHS made some nice progress today after some initial weakness to start the session was met with a lift, some rest, and then a steady uptrend into the closing bell.  The stock went out at its highs of the day, and the volume expansion which accompanied today’s move was very encouraging.  I’m now watching for some follow through toward Target 1, which could be seen this week at the pace this one is moving.  I’d like to see it either build on today’s advance or simply hold onto today’s gains before looking to make any adjustments.

Closed Positions:

DLPH broke out yesterday from its triangle pattern, but couldn’t stick.  As I’ve seen a few times of late with other first-day failures, this one resulted in a stop-out today as it took me out for a 3.8% loss.  While I’m disappointed in the quick entry-exit combo, the fact is that this was a quality setup with good potential for follow through in a stock which has been in a steady uptrend since late last year.  Given the same setup again, I’d still take it, even though this time it handed me a loss.  I’ll leave this one alone for now as it apparently needs more rest before it’s ready to go.

Open Position Notes:

GRMN flirted with $48 again today but didn’t get over the hump, finishing just $0.20 beneath that level.  I’d really like to see a close above that zone, but for now the stock remains short-term range-bound so I’m waiting for a lift out of this zone to potentially spark a rally to challenge the recent high.

FBHS eased to a new high intraday, and despite backing off its best level of the day it finished positive and posted a new closing high.  This setup remains bullish and looks poised for higher prices, so I’m going to sit tight for now as we head into Wednesday’s session.

DLPH triggered a buy today at the open as it gapped slightly through my intended buy point at $32.15 to clear the upper end of the symmetrical triangle pattern which has held it captive for the past several weeks.  Volume picked up a bit with today’s attempt higher, but in the end the stock finished back beneath the trend line.  This constitutes an initial failure of the breakout, but I’ll give it another shot to head higher and see if it’s able to resume its uptrend.  If it shows hesitation, I may then look to modify my stop but for Wednesday I’m leaving it as-is.

FBHS triggered, DLPH updated

Open Position Notes:

GRMN began the day strong right out of the gate with a quick spike past the $48 level I’ve been wanting to see it clear.  However, the move was short-lived and the stock drifted back to flounder around for the rest of the day.  It ultimately finished slightly higher on the session, but remains range-bound until we see a close beyond $48.  Volume did improve today, which was nice to see, so I’d like to see if this one is able to make a catch-up attempt tomorrow.

FBHS triggered a buy today at the open as it crossed up through the descending trend line at $21.45.  The stock was able to close above that level and make some initial progress, although volume was light and that’s not what I’d prefer to see on a turn higher like this.  I’m going to wait before making any adjustments, as tomorrow we could see it build on today’s advance with some greater participation (volume).  Decent start, but I’d like to see some follow through, some better volume, or both.

Open Position Notes:

GRMN pulled back Friday morning but found buyers once again, and from there the stock lifted into positive territory by the closing bell.  The gain on the day was modest, but it was another important recovery for this stock as it continues to base.  For the week, it gained some ground, but overall remains beneath the most recent resistance zone which is $48.  I’d like to see it push through that level on its next attempt and get going, or else I’ll likely adjust my stop.  Thus far, there is no technical reason to sell but the stock is not making much progress and therefore I’m leaving my capital exposed to risk without much reward.  I’m sticking with my existing trade parameters heading into Monday’s session.

Open Position Notes:

GRMN showed some modest follow through today on the heels of yesterday’s turnaround, although the stock is still in the recent range and volume is still light overall.  It’s currently just about 1% from the high from 3/12, which is the $47.99 level where this stock reached its best level since I initiated this trade.  I’ve been quite patient with it and will stick with it for now as there’s no pressing need for my capital and there’s no reason yet to tighten my stop or exit the position.

Open Position Notes:

GRMN showed some steady morning weakness today before finding its footing and reversing higher to finish positive on the day.  This stock overall remains range-bound and just a few cents from my entry price, with only a $0.40 dividend on the way to show for itself.  Nonetheless, I was encouraged by today’s retreat which (1) stopped shy of my stop loss to hold support, and (2) found buyers on the dip.  I’m going to stick with my existing trade parameters for tomorrow’s session, and would like to see a more decisive turn higher with some volume expansion to accompany it.

CLR stopped

Open Position Notes:

GRMN gave up a little ground today but stayed inside yesterday’s range.  That’s been par for the course of late, as this stock has made no meaningful upside since triggering a buy for me a couple of weeks ago and instead has simply moved sideways.  My stop is still in place and I’m doing my best to be patient with this one, but it’s akin to watching paint dry so if it doesn’t get going in the next couple of days I may look to tighten my stop a bit.

Closed Positions:

CLR gapped lower this morning but was turned away a short time later when it attempted to start filling the gap.  Instead, another wave of selling hit the stock and it turned decisively lower to stop me out for a 3.5% loss.  This one showed hesitation from day 1 of the trade, and despite a few attempts at turning higher just couldn’t make it happen.  Today’s close was the lowest in almost a month, so it appears this one looks ripe for a little deeper pullback.  I’m out with a manageable loss, and will leave this one alone until it shapes up for another trade.

Open Position Notes:

GRMN dipped late last week but held its ground today as it stabilized and turned back up with a modest 1% gain on the session.  Volume was lacking, however, which adds to the range-bound appearance of this chart since it triggered an entry.  I’d like to see it clear the $48 level to make a new recovery high from the recent pullback, and ideally on improved volume.  I’m sticking with it for now and will wait to see if some follow through arrives after today’s advance.

CLR approached last week’s high but stopped 7c shy of it, then pulled back sharply into mid-morning.  From there, the stock was able to stabilize and recover, finishing lower by just a few cents on the day.  This one still looks like it could turn up from here, but it needs to push through the $91 area in order to get back on the move.  I’m leaving my stop as-is for tomorrow’s session so this one can have some freedom of movement while waiting for a more decisive turn higher.

Open Position Notes:

GRMN gave up a little more ground today but finished off its worst level of the day.  The stock hasn’t continued higher since clearing the trend line two weeks ago, but the gap I’m wanting to see hold from late-February is still intact, so my stop is still in place.  I’m doing my best to remain patient here, but the stock is short-term range-bound so I may look to make an adjustment soon.  I’m leaving my trade stop as-is for Monday’s session and will re-evaluate it once the new week is underway.

CLR hesitated to head higher after crossing the trend line on Wednesday, but today the stock turned nicely higher on a big pick up in volume, which is encouraging to see.  This one is now back in the green, so let’s see if it can produce some upside follow through and start heading toward the Targets in the days ahead.  I’d like to see it make some further progress before looking to make any adjustments to my stop, so I’m leaving it as-is for Monday’s session.

Open Position Notes:

GRMN turned lower today on increased volume, despite the indexes showing some modest strength.  Today’s finish took the stock back beneath the trigger price from last week, which I do not find encouraging.  The stock had a shot at clearing the $48 level, but stopped shy of that level and turned lower, shedding 1.6% on the session.  My stop remains in place beneath the recent low, so should that level get crossed and we see the gap again start to get filled, then I’ll shift to the sidelines.  Today was the record date for the $0.40 dividend, so I stand to capture that at the very least.  If stopped, it will effectively reduce my loss, or if the trade works then I’ll effectively have caught a little larger move.  That’s an afterthought though, as what I care most about is the price action and this one isn’t acting well.

CLR gapped higher this morning, filled the gap right off the bat, then traded up to a new morning high.  Once again though, we saw that bounce (and another in the early afternoon) get used for selling and the stock ultimately gained only a few cents on the day.  The failure of the stock to attempt to clear the trend line level (which failed yesterday on its first attempt) is a bit of a concern.  I’m staying with the trade to be patient, but overall this stock appears to still be moving laterally.  My stop is in place should it be needed.
